- MPNews by Mutant Penguin is a news server allowing you to create your own groups for the internet or your intranet. Great for technical support, organizations, clubs, etc. Supports nntp or web-based newsreading.
- NewsArchive "is an automated off-site backup service for newsgroups. Whatever server you use to run your newsgroups, whatever you use them for, if they are important to your business you should be using NewsArchive to ensure they keep running."
- EServ by EType will allow you to organize in-office mail and news exchange as a local mail server (SMTP, IMAP4 and POP3) and a news server (NNTP).

- ArGoSoft News Server for running a local news server. Groups can be created for worldwide access, but the server does not pick up external feeds.
- BinBuster Pro News Server by Oz Insight for Win, Linux, or BSD. "The BinBuster Pro News
Server addresses the significant problems faced by ISPs of handling large volumes of news
articles. This is due to binary attachments carried by articles (35 top groups are
accountable for 50% of the traffic), and because these attachments are posted multiple
times with different messages and reposted regularly. BinBuster Pro uniquely identifies
attached binary objects and will store only one copy of each posted object, no matter with
how many messages it comes with."
- Conversant by Macrobyte Resources is a community/site-building package. Subscribers can read or post to discussions via news, e-mail, or web. Server runs on Mac or Windows.
- DBabble by NetWin Ltd. "DBabble is a powerful instant messaging and discussion server which
allows users to send instant messages and attachments, have private conversations,
and create/participate in private or public meeting rooms and discussions in
real time. Faster and easier than Email, the DBabble communications solution
is ideal for Internet Service Providers and large and small companies wanting
to deliver the benefits of real time communications to their organization and
users. DBabble is easily customizable, does not require direct internet access,
and can be run stand alone on a small company network or integrated into large
scale internet services provided by ISP's or corporations. Can be managed entirely
from within it's user interface by any user with administrative privileges,
or, for increased security, from specified IP addresses." Discussions can optionally be linked to external usenet (NNTP) groups.
- Dejewski NNTP Server by Jan Dejewski. It does local groups only, and has some nifty features (archiving, moderation, administration type features.) Free for up to 3 newsgroups, or can purchase a license.
- DNews: by NetWin Ltd. "is advanced news server software that makes it easy for you to provide users with fast access to Internet (Usenet) news groups. Installing your own local news server software also gives you complete control to create your own private or public discussion forums for enhanced communications across the organization and Internet."
- EServ by EType will allow you to organize in-office mail and news exchange as a local mail server (SMTP, IMAP4 and POP3) and a news server (NNTP).
- Exchange by Microsoft does POP/IMAP/webmail/newsgroups and Exchange groupware
- Extra Systems NNTP Server is freeware. At this point it hosts local groups only. Also see French or Russian sites.
- Fanfare by Trumpet will host mail, web, ftp, telent, and news (news only works on Win 3.11)
- Hamster Classic: a Win32 mail and newsserver. Also see the new Hamster Playground
- GoldFind lets you analyze Hamster's logs to give you statistics.
- GlobalChat Message Board server produces discussion boards accessible by web or nntp.
- Inframail by Infradig for Windows or Unix is a mail server (POP, IMAP, web-mail, mailing lists) and news server.
- INN for Cygwin is a port of INN to Windows, requiring Cygwin.
- JiveForums for Win, Mac, or Unix is Java-based. and "is a powerful, open-architecture, customizable community product that supports dynamic, threaded discussions on websites." All versions have an e-mail gateway, and the enterprise and expert versions allow nntp posting/reading.
- Lyris ListManager: mailing list/private NNTP news server for Windows and Unix.
- Macallan Mail Solution -- Freeware mail server. "Macallan Mail Solution is a Mail Server (SMTP/POP3/IMAP/HTTP/NEWS) for Microsoft Windows XP and Microsoft Windows 2000.
Filtering mechanisms against Spammers using DNSBL (DNS Black List) and your own Keywords Black List / Friend List are included. Mechanisms against Virus can be used with your Anti-Virus .
Replies can be sent automatically for those abusing Spams and Virus to providers. SpamAssassin can be used."
- Mailtraq: by Fastraq Engineering also is a mail and mailing list server. Acts as a direct news server or mail to news gateway.
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Internet Information Server by Microsoft. Serves many protocols, including mail and news.

- MyNews by Juergen Helbing is a small internet news server for personal usage. It can be run on a dialup line as well as in a local network.
- NewsPlex by Adam Mirowski (also comes in Linux version) "NewsPlex v2.8 is a news-server multiplexer. It allows to access
several news-servers simultaneously from any news-reader as if they
were a single server, and to take articles for each group from many
servers at once. NewsPlex can be seamlessly inserted between your
existing news-server and your news-reader, without disturbing the list
of groups or the article numbers."
- NewsServlet by Allaire is a Java Module for it's JRun application, allowing reading/posting via to an nntp server via a web browser. Server runs on Windows
- News-Proxy by BC Soft Team is, as the name suggests, a news-proxy. Newsreaders think it is a news server, but it then relays posts to a mail-to-news gateway.
- SurgeNews by NetWinsite for Windows or Linux.
- Usenews by Living Deadlines. "Usenews is the first Windows 2000/Windows NT news server with a truly intuitive graphical user interface. Usenews capability highlights include drag and drop network and server configuration, visual network mapping, configurable report writing capability, operator's console, configuration of multiple servers on a single computer and remote management of services."
- Tortoise: for NT, based upon NNTPRelay.
- Virtuoso Universal Server from OpenLink Software "is a cross platform server that implements multiple server side protocols as part of a single product offering. You get one server product that offers WebDAV/HTTP, Application, and Database server functionality alongside Native XML Storage, Universal Data Access Middleware, and a Web Services Platform." Includes mail server and news component. "Virtuoso's News Services is a NNTP based server that provides fast access to Internet (Usenet) news groups with a simple interface for creating, administering and accessing NNTP newsgroups. Virtuoso News Services enable integration of multiple news forums whether they reside in an internal corporate intranet or externally on the internet.
More than just a NNTP news reader, Virtuoso News Services has the ability to perform a powerful Usenet text search where by news content that resides in Virtuoso is dynamically indexed to provide keyword searches across multiple forums. "
- WebBoard by Akiva does web boards and mailing lists, but users can read/post via nntp if they wish. (purchase)
- WebCrossing is a "community" package, meaning it provides a web site and communication packages for virtual communities. Web, Webmail, POP3/IMAP/SMTP, web-based and NNTP forums, and can run mailing lists.
